An exciting Planners Athletic Club side let Danbort FC off the hook in an entertaining duel at the Zimmerman Presby Park in Nungua in the Division One League opener in Zone III on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the visitors dominance it took a while in the first half for coach Bulley’s team to settle into the game. Goalkeeper Rasheed Musah had to prove his mettle early in the game as he palmed away a furious strike from Jessey Sowah in the opening moments of the game.
Danbort continued to pressure the Planners area and they duly got the opening goal when Jessey swept a half volley home from just outside of the area.
After falling behind Planners worked themselves gradually into the game and harassed the opposition goal area and nearly pulled level but they were unlucky five times on a row as the ball just refused to enter into the post.
Planners perpetually probed the opponent’s goal area with Osman Haqi, Seth Kumah and Eric Kipo exerting more pressure on the defence.
After the interval the team continued where they left off and continued to probe the defence of the hosts but the goal won’t arrive until last season’s skipper Amon Kotey Richard was introduced on 76 minutes. The 21-year-old took off Benjamin Osei Amoquandoh and formed a good partnership with Kumah and Kipo in attack. Meanwhile with 9 minutes left Eugene Atoko was brought on for Seth Kumah and the pressure increased. An intelligent pass from Abdulah Adams Junior set up Amon Kotey 1v1 with the goalkeeper and he intelligent forward beat the goalkeeper before he was fouled inside the box. Referee Solomon Mordey had no option than signal for a penalty.
Vitus Yamoah elected and dispatched the kick with confidence and composure to pull us level.
Just moments after the leveler a golden chance was presented to Osman Haqi to snatch the lead for Planners but he was unlucky as he ball went just wide with just the goalkeeper to beat. Again the hosts were let off the hook when Razack crashed his effort into the post.
Planners XI: Rasheed Musah – Nana Opare Agyemang, Emmanuel McCarthy, Philip Gameli, Vitus Yamoah (C), Joseph Ato Junior, Abdulah Adams Junior, Seth Kumah – Benjamin Osei Amoquandoh, Osman Haqi, Eric Abdul-Razack Kipo.
