Planners dominated guest Skyy FC but were unable to pin them in a nail-biting 1-1 pre-season friendly draw at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana Park in Akim New Tafo on Sunday afternoon.
Center-back Vitus Yamoah scored a trademark penalty kick on the 54th minute but a calamitous blunder committed by goalkeeper Rasheed Musah ensured the Zone Two side grabbed a share of the spoils inside the 63rd minute.
16-year-old Daniel Osafo Bortey should have registered his first goal of the pre-season but his effort from inside 10 yards was ruled out by the center referee.
Coach Bulley handed a debut start to Felix Sangmor in place of the unavailable Emmanuel McCarthy and brought Yussif Oduro to step in for the injured Nana Opare Agyeman while Osafo started alongside Seth Kumah in attacking midfield with skipper Enoch Afful and Joseph Ato Junior acting as insurance for the backline.
Winger Richard Osei operated from the left in support of lone ranger Benjamin Osei Amoquandoh.
The early exchanges remained a battle of two sides. To put it into perspective it was a cagy midfield battle which demanded on the technical clouts and physical presence of Afful and Ato in the DM roles.
As the half wore on Planners settled into the game and found their rhythm with Kumah and Osafo shifting the gear and pressing on the accelerator. The two combined to play through Amoquandoh on the 28th minute mark but the striker fluffed his lines much to the displeasure of the men on the Planners bench.
Planners managed to put the ball at the back of the net in the 35th minute when Sangmor and Kumah combined to find Osafo who watched his goal-bound effort blocked off by the guests keeper before he scurried off to put the rebound behind for goal but the linesman flagged him for handling the ball.
Vitus Yamoah fired Planners ahead moments after the interval after Osafo was fouled inside the box by the keeper.
The players looked pumped up for the game when an error by goalkeeper Musah from an innocuous ball took the wind out of their sails with the visitors levelling the scores.
Substitutes Richmond Amon Kotey, James Boakye, Nathaniel Korankye and Mohammed Fatiti tried and tried but couldn’t snatch victory for the Executioners.
Planners XI: Rasheed Musah – Yussif Oduro, Felix Sangmor, Vitus Yamoah, Philip Gameli – Enoch Afful (C), Joseph Ato Junior, Seth Kumah, Daniel Osafo, Richard Osei – Benjamin Osei Amoquandoh.
